§02Why certification matters

A fire door is only as good as the way it's fitted.

A certified doorset can fail if the gaps are wrong, the seals are missing or the closer doesn't latch. Third-party certification closes that gap between a tested product and a safe installation.

  • Independently audited

Our work is assessed by BM TRADA, a UKAS-accredited certification body — not self-certified.

  • Labelled and traceable

Certified installations are labelled on the door, so anyone can check who installed it and under which scheme.

  • Evidence on file

Certificates and door-by-door records give your fire risk assessor, insurer or auditor exactly what they ask for.

  • Less liability for you

Certified installation and maintenance protects residents and staff, and reduces your exposure if something goes wrong.

How Q-Mark installation works

§03Your duties

How often should your fire doors be checked?

Since January 2023, the Fire Safety (England) Regulations have set firm inspection duties for many residential buildings. Here's the short version.

Open the compliance checker
  1. Every 3 months

    Communal fire doors

Residential buildings over 11 m: check all fire doors in common parts, including self-closers.

    FS(E)R 2022, reg. 10
  2. Every 12 months

    Flat entrance doors

Residential buildings over 11 m: use best endeavours to check every flat entrance door, and record it.

    FS(E)R 2022, reg. 10
  3. At least every 6 months

    Other premises

Offices, venues, care settings and more: fire doors must be maintained, with six-monthly checks widely recommended.

    RRO 2005 art. 17 · BS 9999

§05What our clients say

Professional, on schedule — and it shows.

We recently worked with Smiths Contractors to install brand-new toilets in our bar where none previously existed, and the results have been outstanding. From the very start, their team was professional, efficient, and transparent about the process. They handled everything—from planning and groundwork to installation—with minimal disruption to our business.

Smiths Contractors did a fantastic job refurbishing our entrance doorsets to our 3 tower, 600 apartment residential complex. The work was carried out professionally, on schedule, and the estate looks so much better for it. Highly recommended.

We inspect every door, or walk the project with you, and record exactly what we find.

  2. 02

    Report & price

You get clear findings, options and a fixed scope before any work begins.

  3. 03

    Deliver

Certified operatives and project managers carry out the work around your building's routine.

  4. 04

    Certify & record

Doors are labelled and certified, and you receive the records that prove compliance.
